    NUUSVRYSTELLING
    Breyten Breytenbach, een van Suid-Afrika se mees gevierde en befaamde digters en oud-Wellingtonner wat op 16 September 2019 tagtig word, is die digter wat vanjaar by die jaarlikse Tuin van Digters gehuldig word.

    Die Tuin van Digters, die tuiste van die Afrikaanse digkuns, word op Vrydag 13 en Saterdag 14 September 2019 vir die agtste keer by die Breytenbach-sentrum in Burgerstraat 14 in Wellington aangebied. Breyten, soos hy alom in die spreektaal bekend is, het saam met sy ouers en jonger broer en suster in die huis waarin die Breytenbach-kultuursentrum 12 jaar gelede gestig is, gewoon.
    Breyten sal buiten sy huldiging Vrydagaand, waar Laurinda Hofmeyr – bygestaan deur baskitaarspeler Schalk Joubert – van sy getoonsette gedigte sal sing, ook Saterdagmiddag deelneem aan ’n paneelbespreking oor vertaling van gedigte en of sy gedigte vertaalbaar is. Saterdagaand sal hy, met musiekbegeleiding deur Schalk Joubert, van sy gedigte voorlees. ’n Huldigingsbundel van die Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns, breyten breytenbach, woordenaar woordnar, word Saterdagoggend tydens ’n paneelbespreking bekendgestel.
    ’n Ander hoogtepunt is die toekenning Saterdagaand van die Ingrid Jonker-prys vir ’n Afrikaanse debuutbundel aan Pieter Odendaal vir sy bundel asof geen berge ooit hiergewoon het nie.

    Ons Klyntji 2019, ’n alternatiewe, veeltalige zine wat gedigte, kortverhale, fotografie en comics publiseer, word ook bekendgestel met van die digters en skrywers wat hul gedigte en verhale sal voorlees. Getuies, ’n rymklets-trio van tussen Wellington en die Paarl, sal hul gedigte rymklets.

    Afrikaanse digbundels wat bekend gestel sal word, sluit in Willem S. van der Merwe se Nuwe Vrese, Christo van der Westhuizen se debuutbundel Chrisalis, Diana Ferrus se DIE VREDE KOM LATER en Gaireyah Fredericks, een van die Breytenbach-sentrum se Mengelmoesdigters, se meTTie mAAn gePLa.

    Daar is ook Engelse, Xhosa, Belgiese en Nederlandse teenwoordigheid. Frieda van den Heever, aanbieder van RSG se gewilde program Vers en klank, deel die verhoog met digters Danie Marais, Jolyn Phillips, Lwanda Sindaphi, Diana Ferrus en Daniel Hugo wat gedigte in Afrikaans, Xhosa en Engels sal voorlees en saam dink en besin oor wat deur vertaling gewen en verloor kan word. Prof. Yves T’Sjoen van die Universiteit van Gent sal benewens ’n huldebetoon aan Breyten Breytenbach ook vertel hoe Breyten se tagtigste verjaardag in Gent gevier gaan word. Die Nederlandse sangeres Lieke Joosen en haar twee musikante is op hulle eerste besoek aan Suid-Afrika. Sy vermeng bestaande Afrikaanse liedjies met eie toonsettings in Afrikaans van gedigte van onder andere Antjie Krog.

    Dan is daar spesiale optredes deur Danie du Toit, voorsanger en skrywer (en digter) van Spoegwolf met sy kitaar, die talentvolle jong Akimba-musiekgroep, die digters van hoop van die Weltevrede Sekondêre Skool in Wellington, poësieteater deur die Breytenbach-sentrum se dramagroep, Woorde op Akkoorde deur Frazer Barry en sy musikante tussen 13:00 en 14:00 Saterdag, Willemien/Philomène en :amaFranx met musiek oor die konteks van die lewe, die liefde en die spasies tussenin, en Elsabé Daneel se roerende voorlesing van gedigte van onder andere Breyten Breytenbach en Ingrid Jonker.

    Daar is nog meer by 2019 se Tuin van Digters . . . die volledige program kan afgelaai word by www.breytenbachsentrum.co.za.
    Kaartjies is R350 per persoon vir albei dae (Vrydag en Saterdag), R150 per persoon net vir Vrydag (wat al die aanbiedings insluit), R250 per persoon net vir Saterdag (wat alle aanbiedings insluit), R50 per dag per student en gratis vir opbetaalde lede van PEN Afrikaans.

    WPS&C’s Fun Run takes place at Bontebok Ridge Reserve on Saturday 14 September 2019 from 08:00 – 11:00. This fun-filled fundraising event offers exciting routes on the scenic game reserve for runners and walkers alike.
    The 1km Bat Eared Fox route is suited to families with young children. Prizes will only be awarded to under 10 year olds in this race.
    The 4km Wild Boar route is open to everyone.
    The 8km Bontebok route is more challenging and suited to seasoned runners. Entries of under 10’s can unfortunately not be accepted for the 8km route.
    There is an entrance fee payable on the day for everyone attending, whether they are participating in the Fun Run or not. The entrance fee is only R20 and allows ticket holders access to the Fun Run venue.
    Participating runners or walkers do not need to buy an additional entrance ticket. Race entry tickets include the R20 entrance fee to the venue.
    All proceeds, including the entrance fees, goes towards Wellington Preparatory School & College’s fundraising initiatives.
    Prizes will be awarded to the first women and men and first boys and girls to complete the 4km Wild Boar Run and 8km Bontebok Run. Prizes will ONLY be awarded to winning children under 10 in the 1km Bat Eared Fox Run.
    Drinks and refreshments will be on sale. Regret no BYO. Food tickets will be on sale.
    All minors have to be accompanied by an adult - no drop off and go.
