The changing of the seasons brings with it a myriad of comforts, but the best news is that Franschhoek is #OpenForWinter and guaranteed to keep the cold at bay. Franschhoek is the picture of absolute perfection during this time and the scenery that awaits your visit is guaranteed to take your breath away.

Come out from the cold and discover what Franschhoek has to offer. Cozy warm fireplaces, robust red wines, soul comforting food, memorable experiences and so much more. A day or weekend trip to Franschhoek is the perfect excuse to browse the numerous art galleries in and around the valley. If art isn’t for you then be sure to pop into one of the artisanal chocolate shops, craft beer microbrewery, boutique clothing and décor shops or French imported cheese shop, all dotted along the Main Road and within comfortable walking distance of each other. Should you happen to find yourself in the village over a weekend, the Franschhoek Village Market is the local hangout and the place to be on a Saturday morning.

Hey Joe Microbrewery

Traditionally a quieter time in Franschhoek there are a number of establishments in and around the Valley who are offering Winter inspired packages too good to refuse. Catering to most experiences what better excuse to breakaway for the weekend to a luxury guesthouse or boutique hotel. Snuggle up to their cozy fireplaces while enjoying a good book and sipping on local wines. Franschhoek’s Mystery Weekends, which take place during this time into September, are a must on any bucket list.

Lily Pond House at Le Lude

Did you know that Franschhoek is home to four of last year’s Top 10 Eat Out Restaurant winners. Now would be the perfect time to experience their culinary magic. Or indulge in one of the many #OpenForWinter inspired menus. These range from three-course meals for lunch to a four-course meal for dinner with wine included.

La Petite Colombe

Rejuvenate your mind, body and spirit with a spa treatment, and the good news is that Franschhoek is home to a number of internationally acclaimed health and wellness retreats. Make the most of the handful of perfect Winter days with a soul refreshing outdoor activity. Hiking or tackling a mountain bike trail aren’t only limited to the warmer months. Or a leisurely stroll through some of the area’s magnificent gardens breathing in fresh mountain air is guaranteed to revive a tired mind.

Sante Wellness Retreat and Spa

Franschhoek is also the perfect destination for a day visit. A relaxing wine tasting or indulgent lunch are some of the highlights to expect when planning your trip. A highlight on the Winter calendar is Franschhoek Winter Wines, which takes place on Saturday, 15 June (11am to 4pm) at Franschhoek Cellar. Mingle with the winemakers as you sample their seasonal inspired wines.
