As part of our Nelson Mandela Day activities, Franschhoek Wine Valley visited 3 creches in Groendal with cupcakes, juice & fruit. This being a small token of our appreciation to the teachers and to spread a bit more of the Madiba Magic.

Franschhoek Wine Valley is extremely proud to announce that Bradley Ewerts, a Cellar Assistant at Haut Espoir, has been selected to participate in the Burgundy Exchange Programme.
This programme is an initiative of the Western Cape Department of Agriculture aimed at wine and cellar participants. The competition gives previously disadvantaged individuals the opportunity to acquire experience in viticulture and oenology, wine processing techniques and wine chemistry.
Our best wishes accompany him on his new adventure.
Well done Bradley!

Autumn in Franschhoek is undoubtedly the best season of the year, albeit a short one. The cooler days bring us relief from the summer heat, invigorates and revives us and tells us to get outdoors before the cold winter days start. The vine leaves are starting to change from dark green to rich reds, rusts and yellows. They will soon drop to carpet the ground beneath the bare stalls so get your camera out and enjoy the riot of colour while you can.
Our village is blessed to be surrounded by majestic mountains. It is what lures tourists to our valley and what keeps the locals here. Every day we get to see these giant guardians standing on our horizon watching over us.

The FLF Spelling Bee Competition was held during the Franschhoek Literary Festival on 19 May 2018 at Wes-Eind Primary School Hall, with all the local Primary schools participating in the English and Afrikaans categories.
The Spelling Bee is aligned with the vision of the Literary Festival which is to create a reading culture amongst our pupils and in the valley, through creating libraries.
With the 32 pupils participating in this year’s Spelling Bee, the competition was as fierce as any sporting event. It became a battle of wills and words. They really knew their ABCs!
Franschhoek Wine Valley would like to thank The Franschhoek Literary Festival Fund, Cape Winelands District Municipality, our hosts, Wes-Eind Primary, Auntie Ruth Paulse for the delicious snack packs, Oscar’s Transport Services for the reliable & safe transport of our contestants and their parents and of course our local schools for participating.
Franschhoek Wine Valley is proud of this initiative as it is a way for the schools to come together and a great learning experience.

Franschhoek also boasts a wide selection of outdoor activities, perfectly suited for all grades of adventure enthusiasts. A hike in the Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve offers panoramic views of the valley. Breakfast Rock in the nature reserve is the perfect spot to view the valley’s splendor at sunrise or sunset. Explore the fynbos along the mountain trails and spot a baboon or two along the way. The Berg River hiking and biking trails are adds another dimension to Franschhoek’s vistas.
